Sunday book club : The escape room megan golding

Hello so I am back with another book review I actually picked this up from the library thinking it was from author I had already but it wasn't not and thing so let's crack on !

So If you have read one these before you know it we start with the blurb then I get in my options I try not put spoilers in incase people reading haven't read the book and are looking at reviews to make there choice .

"'Welcome to the escape room. Your goal is simple. Get out alive.' In the lucrative, high-pressure world of Wall Street finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie and Sam are the best of the best. Their team makes billion-dollar deals. They live lives of vanity and luxury. Making money is the only thing that matters and they'll do whatever it takes to get ahead - and to get what they're owed. But when the four of them become trapped in an elevator escape room, things start to go terrifyingly wrong. In the pursuit of wealth they've learned to live with each other's secrets and flaws, but in the confines of the elevator their rivalries and jealousies are laid bare, leaving them dangling on the precipice of disaster. They'll have to work together to solve the puzzles that will release them from the elevator, but the clues they're given force them to reckon with their past - and long-departed colleagues. And as their escape grows more and more improbable, one secret is revealed that they can't ignore: one of them is a killer."

So from the blurb is actually doesn't tell you a lot  so will tell you bit more .So basically the main character sarah hall goes to work for high pressure corporate firm where it basically keep up or get out . Sarah works for the company for number years then someone in the office commutes suicide when Sarah suggests this may not be the case she is pushed out the company.  After this there are all sorts of twists and turns which eventually end up with escape room.

I loved this book it kept me gripped I never knew what was going on and it was only towards the end I figured what was going on. It was very fast paced book i read it in days very much  my sort of thing.  I f you like a good suspense thriller I would highly recommend you read this.  I gave this boom 5 stars I plan on reading other books by this author.

Sunday Book Club: The one by john marrs

I am back to day for another book club Sunday . This I about the the one by John Marrs if you looking for the review of the flat share which I said I was reading in my last review you can find that on my Instagram I will link it here  . Now back to the book in question  I read this via audio book if anyone is interested I borrowed online through my local library I am telling this because a lot people don't realise that there library's online I certainly didn't until lockdown.. So let crack on

this what the blurb tell us

How far would you go to find the one ?

one simple mouth swab is all it takes . a quick DNA test to find your prefect partner - the you're genetically made for .

a decade after scientists discover everyone has a gene they share with just one person, millions have taken the test, desperate to find true love. now five more people meet there match . but even soul mates have secrets. and some are more shocking -and deadlier-than others ...

I am going to start by saying when I first started listen to this I thought I had clicked on the wrong thing ad I was listening to some advert that sounded very suspicious. My mum was in the car with me at the time and even she was confused . But to bare with it its actually a really good read so we have 5 people who have all taken the test to find there match we have a serial killer ,the CEO of match.com , then we have Jade ,Mandy, and  Nick . Now at first I was like how the heck does it all link why are there so many characters my brain was very confused and I thought this a very weird book I am listening to but as it when on it all started to be come clear. They  had all taken this match my DNA swab and where on there way to find there partners I wont spoil it but its not an easy journey and there are definitely are some twists . I am normal and able to figure these things out but even I was baffled I would definitely  recommend you read this if you like a good psychological thriller it will challenge your brain  . I rated this 4*s on good reads I will link for good reads here  .

Book club Sunday : Bridgerton The Duke And I

I am going to try and start of bit of series here .I love to read and I have read a lot during this pandemic. So every Sunday will be a book review and at the end I will tell you what I am currently reading so you can read along I you want to and comment when the review is posted your thoughts this might not work so bare with me .

So I am going to be starting with this the first book of the bridgerton series.  I will give you what is said in the blurb then will give you my opinions.

"Can there be any greater challenge to London's Ambitious Mamas than an unmarried duke? Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1813

By all accounts, Simon Basset is on the verge of proposing to his best friend's sister, the lovely - and almost-on-the-shelf - Daphne Bridgerton. But the two of them know the truth - it's all an elaborate plan to keep Simon free from marriage-minded society mothers. And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable . . .

Their ruse works like a charm - at first. But as Daphne waltzes across ballroom after ballroom with Simon, it's hard to remember that their courtship is a complete sham. Maybe it's his devilish smile, certainly it's the way his eyes seem to burn every time he looks at her. It wasn't the plan, but it seems she's falling for the duke, for real. And amidst the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of London's elite, there is only one certainty: love ignores every rule . . . "

Now I will start by saying I read this two days I was Hooked I just couldn't put it down . I had watched the series on Netflix before reading the book but I have to say I think  the book outshines it . I struggled to get in to the series .I have to say I don't think the series really captures the romance and the true connection between Daphne and Simon. I also find the series miss out big chunks of the book . How Simon and Daphne meet is also different in the book. We learn a lot more about there  marriage in the book how Daphne convinces Simon to have children in the end.  Spoiler in the book we learn that they go on to have 4 children were in the series this is not shown. Also we don't get to see the second epilogue in the series now weather they will be made in to a separate series I guess we will see. However I noticed in the actual book you don't get the second epilogue where a the kindle version you do . I Will definitely be reading the rest .

I am currently reading the flat share by Beth O'leary  if you like to read this and share your thoughts when I post the review . For real time reviews follow me on Instagram link in the side bar

Living with chronic pain

Hello I am back today  with a different post I have done posts on here about my struggles with anxiety now I want to share the struggles of chronic pain .

If you dont know I suffer with degenerative disc disease in my lumbar spine so what this means is that discs in my lower back are loosing fluid and thinning causing pain . I also have 2 slipped disc in my lower back which cause sciatica.  There is a nerve in your back  called the sciatic nerve which when some thing press it on cause pain to shoot down your leg . So now I have explained briefly what's wrong I will now get to point .

As a young person with chronic pain you feel constantly judged . It feels like people see you getting out the car in disabled space and think your young why you parking there. You go in disabled toilet its the same thing I remember being in a restaurant for my birthday the toilets were upstairs and because I didn't want to judgment form the staff when I went up to get the key to the disabled toilet I battled the stairs. As I came back down a guy shouted should of wore trainers because I was wearing heels i wouldn't normally but I knew i would be mainly sat down so wouldn't cause to much pain. He assumed because I was it the heels causing the problem not my back  pain which if I had wore trainers as he suggested I would struggled with the stairs the same way.

People don't understand how chronic pain effects a person they don't get that there will be a couple days week where you wake up feeling sick with pain they don't get that will be days you can't leave the house . There will  be days you don't sleep or wake at 5am in pain. I saw a article about spoons and it very true its like you only have so many spoons to do things before pain kicks in and you can't do anymore.

This is not me having a moan it me try to make people aware of chronic pain and the effects because it is a invisible disability and because of that people don't understand.  So next time you see a young person get out a car in disabled space or use a disabled toilet just think not all disabilities are visible and you don't know what that persons goes through on a daily basis it might have  been a real struggle for them to leave house that day .

Update what to expect

Hello so I have been very in out of blogging the last few years so I am not going to make any promises.  However I do want to come back as miss it but it won't be the same stuff .

Tips for weighted hula hooping

I have a fitness post for you today  back in February this year I started using a weighted hula hoop to help be tone and define my waist this seem to be quite a thing at the moment .So I thought I would post some tips that have helped me during my journey .

 1. Find the right weight hoop for you as you get better you can always increase the weight but my hoop is 1.4kg hoop

2. Start slowly don't get hoop an try and do 10 mins a day because this how you end up hurting your self and will get some cracking bruises . Start with 2-3 mins each side and then increase it slowly so 2-3 mins week 1 the 5 mins week 2 etc . If read any description on weighted hoops most  actually advise you do this .

3. To get started but one foot in font of the other and gently swing the hoop the direction of the foot you have forward gently rocking your hips back and forward as you get better you will be able to but you feet together .

4. Keep the hoop at steady pace there is no point trying to wack it round as fast you can because you are more likely to loose control and drop it . If you keep it as nice pace you will be keep up with it and keep control

5. Make sure you have enough space to hoop in .My hoop is quite big but I struggle with a smaller hoop so make sure you have room so your not knocking things brilliant in the garden in the summer but i use are loft as we don't have a garden yet .

Those are my top tips for hooping it is a really good workout and easy to fit in your day. I got my hoop off Facebook but you can get then in argos and amazon my sister got hers in a charity shop so there are loads of options out there.

Book Review : The Couple Next Door

I am back today with a bit of different post a book review I was always a book worm as a teenager and as I grew up  just didn't get time but it is something I have recently got back in . So this a review of the couple next door .

This book is all about a couple who go to a dinner party at the next door neighbours house and leave there baby alone as the baby sitter cancels. They take the baby monitor with them and they check on her every half and hour . When they return home they find there baby has gone from her crib .

It took me four days to read this book I couldn't put it down it me gripped from the moment I picked it up. It has so many twists every time I thought I had figured out what happened I would find out something else and be like ok maybe not . With out giving anything away all i will say it is all comes together in the end in way so my theories  I had through out the book .

I would highly recommend it to any one it has some amazing characters and story line. It is amazing as I say every time I thought I thought I knew it the twist which made me rethink. I think husband marco is my favourite character by far . I cant wait to read more books by this author.

Getting The Perfect Blow Dry

Hello everyone I am back today with a hair post I am all about hair since going blonde I now have take more care of my hair.

1. Use heat protect spray this goes with any heated hair tool  but there are loads of heat protect spray that especially for blow drying I use the Toni and guy heat mist .

2. Make sure you use the diffuse nozzle that comes with your hairdryer this will help direct  the air and reduce frizz .

3. Make sure you are blowing drying your hair downwards so from root to tip blowing up wards opens up hair cuticles and cause frizz so this important to get that frizz free blow dry .

4. This goes in general but use a good brush I find for blow drying brush i find a paddle brush is best .I use the tangle teaser blow dry brush but you can also use a round brush this does take more practice though .

5.Use a serum on your hair this help with frizz but also fly away if you still have flyways after blow drying then spray some hair spray on the palm of your hand  and smooth your hand over the fly aways .

Hope this is helpful I get so many people asking how I get my hair to blow dry so straight so thought it was worth doing a post on .

Moving Out Essentials

Hi So I missed nearly two months as we were busy with life to be honest so much had happened . My head has only just stopped spinning it all happened that fast update coming soon . I thought I would write this post because when I moved out I had no idea what I would need plus with lost off to uni or maybe already at uni I thought this might useful you  so these I would say are my top essentials.

1. Slow cooker -Weather you are just moving in to a dorm or you are working and moving you are going to need this . If you are busy and then come in you are not going to want to cook .Get a slower cooker put your meal in morning or the night before so all you have is turn it on. Trust me you will thank me for this .

2. A cordless hoover - I don't mean a gtech there are loads of options they are great for flats or dorms as they are light easy to store and you can get affordable options now on amazon and other stores.

3. Tumble dryer - This one is not  really for students but if you are moving out to your first flat get a dryer I know people say it cost you a fortune but I honest haven't seen different in are electric bill since we have had  one. So easy and stops washing being hung everywhere looking untidy and leaving that damp smell.

4. Counter top dishwasher - You are so busy if you are moving in to your first flat invest even if you are moving in with partner. If you can invest check Facebook for a more affordable option do not assume the person you are moving will do the pots or be a tidy as you.

5. Air/health fry - We have a deep fat fryer but to be honest it was dangerous and a lot of faff changing oil and such .So I got an air fryer from aldi and it great has a timer so no fear of it being left on  and  you  can cook a lot more stuff in it than a deep fat fryer we do burgers in ours .

So those are must haves for moving out honestly between the slow cooker and air fryer we very rarely use are oven . Hope you have enjoyed this post and I will see you for another post on Wednesday.

Guest Post:5 Style Tips For Curvy Girl’s Formal Outfits

Hello back today with guest post from peter minkoff he have guest posted on here before and always writes amazing pieces so enjoy he also write on the the high style life if you want to read more .

Want to look great and elegant for a formal occasion? Well, you already know that your curves are absolute love, but if you pick out the right clothing style and effective garments for your figure, you’re bound to look like a star. Of course, regardless of what your body shape is, you should always follow your own fashion sense. In the end, there’s no point of dressing up if you’re not going to feel good and comfortable in the outfit you’re wearing. Looking confident in your attire is the first step to well-chosen formal wear.

Go classic

If you personally don’t fancy skirts and dresses a lot and these are simply not your style, you can still pull off the formal look and accentuate your curves best with classic pants and a flattering shirt. Skinny pants are not very formal so make sure to go with straight-cut, high-waisted pants. Pair these with a loose shirt of light material and a blazer, and you’ll look absolutely gorgeous. You can personalize things a little bit if you add a brooch to the blazer, or go with intricate print in your shirt.

Retro skirts

Retro pencil skirts are all the rage right now. They follow the lines of the body perfectly and since they are also high-waisted, they offer good support in this area. When choosing your perfect retro skirt, make sure to go with one that ends in the middle of your calves or just below the knees. Shorter skirts won’t really fit into a formal category while really long skirts in this particular style can unflatteringly shorten your figure. Once you pick your perfect skirt, you can style it some trendy patterned stockings.

Pick the right dress

With so many options to choose from on the market, finding that one perfect dress can get a bit overwhelming. At the same time, plus size fashion dresses are available in so many different cuts and styles nowadays, which will allow you to try different ones stress-free. If you’re unsure where to start, check out wrap dresses with V-necks because these look gorgeous on a curvier figure. On the other hand, if you really want to accentuate your curves, try bodycon dresses. Of course, since you need a dress for a formal occasion, pay attention that there’s not much cleavage showing.

How to wear a blazer

Most formal outfits involve some kind of blazer or cardigan for good layering. So, if you want to rock this look, make sure to never button your blazers or fitted jackets. If these are tight, buttoning them up would only make you feel uncomfortable, which will translate to your whole posture, it’ll minimize the effect that a loose shirt underneath can give you as well as lose on formality a bit. Still, if you want to get that fitted look without looking too casual, go for blazers with only one button. Make sure to keep these open, and use a silk scarf to create balance if you find it necessary.

Careful with shoes

There’s no better way to lift up your whole figure and make things more elegant than by rocking some nice heels. Still, curvy ladies should stay away from really delicate designs with extremely thin heels and straps because these can disturb the overall balance of the outfit and general appearance. And honestly, these are not very formal either. Instead, opt for stiletto shoes or shoes that have a bit fuller straps and sturdier heels.

In the end, wearing all black and white creates an impression of formal attire. If you like these colors, that’s great, but it’s important to mention that other colors such as deeper shades of red, blue and green also look very elegant and flatter a curvier figure perfectly.

Yankee Candle Scenterpiece

Hello , As some of my long standing followers will know I love candles and wax tarts so today I am here to tell you thoughts on the new yankee candle Scenterpiece .

This was something I was looking into to buying for myself when my friend went and brought me one for looking after her pets while she was away. The one I have is called the rosa from research these burners are about £27.99 and the melt cups £4.99 . So is it worth it ?

I would say so it takes 20 minutes for the whole cup to melt and in my opinion the scent is far stronger than your normal wax tart . Once the cup has completely cooled you can take it out and change scents with ease . Before buying a second one I did remove the wax tart out the melt cup and put normal wax tart in this worked well. However I did have problem getting it out again  so this maybe good use once you have used up all the original cup and are left with an empty cup .

Now the cups say that they have a 24 hour burn time but if you're like me and always have one burning they I would say you will definitely benefit from this as a normal wax tart has burn time of just 8 hours so your getting 3 times the burn time with the melt cups.

I currently have 2 melt cups on in lemon and lavender and all time favourite and one in a regular lemon scent which i am yet to burn .All in all I think if your candle /wax tart addict like me then is right up your street .So easy lots of burn time plus its an electric burner so no fear of anything catching fire like with the traditional tart burner with there tea lights. Its a winner in my book !

I would love  to know your those if you have one these !

St Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan

Hello, Today I have tanning post not something I ever spoke on the blog as I have always been a fan of embrace the pale but this gradual tan has changed all that !

So I have had this product for nearly two months and I have in shade medium /dark . This product claims to give you an even streak free natural glow that will hydrate skin for up to 48 hours ! I use this product two to three a week.

It really easy to use but I would say to get a good coverage and it doesn't streak ! The best way I find to use this product is to apply a thick layer at night and then in the morning apply another layer . This way  I find gives you the most even tan . It will last you a couple of day then as well and there is less chance of streaking . I love this product and will definitely be repurchasing it may be £14.99 but to me its worth every penny . They do one for the face which I will definitely be trying soon as has heard really good things and if as good as this product definitely a winner !

Current Favourite Lip Combo !

Hello , I have another makeup post for you today on my favourite lip combo at the moment .  I know two within a week of each other really spoiling you ! No I am trying to get back into the blog any way let crack on !

So I have eastend snob lip liner all over my lips I wear lip liner under most things because I don't have a very defined lips so this really help give my lips shape and definition. Over the top of that I have the rimmel kate moss in shade 38 which on me is a pinky coral . Then over the top I have younique lip gloss in the shade loveable this just gives your lips dimension I find . So this is a short but sweet post Hope you enjoyed !

P.s love highlighter crayon

Hello, today I am back with a product review yes I am going talk makeup its been a while I know so let crack on .

So this is from the p.s love range by primark I picked this up a while ago but it got buried in all my other makeup and I haven't got round to using it till now . So it is a highlighter crayon these can be very useful for highlighting your inner corners , cupids and brow bone  So is it any good I hear  you ask ?

Well to be honest it ok it the not the worst its not the best ! I think the thing that lets this product down is the  texture . Let me explain it has a very stiff chalky texture which makes it very hard to bend out and nobody wants to see just a line of white somewhere on there face now do they  ?

I have been using this on my brow bone to highlight my arch but I have found i have had to use just little bit of concealer just to bend the edges and make it look more natural . The colour of the crayon is great a nice pearlescent champagne type colour . It just the blending factor that lets it down I think you would have use this before your foundation sets so the creaminess of the foundation helps to blend it. So those our my thoughts great product just doesn't blend well but the price it's better than you think I think was around £2 but dont qoute on me it been a long time since I purchased it .

Have you tried this did you find the some problem?

Guest post : Easy guide for choosing the perfect underwear

Hey I have another guest post for you all from gabriella diesendorf who is a writer for the high style life this time she is educating us all on the perfect underwear  so its over gabby  .

Choosing the right underwear is as essential as picking the right outfit for yourself. If you do not feel comfortable in what you are wearing it will reflect both on your demeanor and self-confidence. Many women do not give underwear a lot of thought, and think, it's just underwear, no one will see it, but the fact is you will feel it.

There are several easy to follow tricks for choosing the right underwear for your body type. It is important to keep emphasis on comfort and support. Naturally not all shapes and materials are for every occasion, so there is also a choice to be made based on the occasion. So let’s start!

Every day comfortable underwear

For every day choices it is best to opt for mostly cotton fabrics which do not irritate your skin. Also it is a good option to go for a shape that does not cut into your skin, and makes you feel uncomfortable. The best choice for panties are briefs, they cover the crotch and rear area, can fit in any size, body shape and are considered to be the healthiest choice. If you can find a good pair of used leggings at great price, they would be an ideal fit with briefs, because that way you can avoid the lines, which are very unseemly, while at the same time maintaining that comfort level.

Finding the right balance between comfortable and sexy is not an easy thing when it comes to underwear options. This is why it is best to choose our battles, as they say. Having a selection of cute and comfortable cotton briefs, right next to a set of designer underwear is the best choice. The most important thing to keep in mind is that a healthy body and skin are the key factor for confidence.

As far as bras go, the everyday focus needs to be on the support. It is important for the back that the bra choice includes strong straps and tight clutches. When it comes to materials, cotton is again the best option for your skin. Naturally it can be embellished with some gentle lace, and it has to contain some elastane in order to provide the needed comfort.

Special occasion underwear

When we talk about choosing underwear for special occasions, comfort is no longer the only issue, design and aesthetics come into play as well. We can all remember the Bridget Jones's grandma panties incident.

It can sometimes be hard to find the perfect balance, so depending on the length of time we are intending to stay in the selected underwear, there are two options. First a beautiful, lacy underwear set, which mostly includes a push up bra and thongs, the second is a more conservative option of lacy boxers and a wire bra. The choice is up to you, but keep in mind, each set needs to be the right size and fit, having things spilling out is in no occasion permitted nor is it a desirable option.

Conclusions

Finding the right balance between comfortable and sexy is not an easy thing when it comes to underwear options. This is why it is best to choose our battles, as they say.
